What Ages Do You Treat With Pellet Therapy?

At Temecula Hormone Therapy, we are providing hormone replacement therapy for women aged 25 and older and men who are ages 30 years and older.

What Is Pellet Therapy?

Pellet therapy uses hormones derived from natural plant sources to replicate the body’s normal hormonal levels. Data supports that testosterone implants effectively treat symptoms in both men and women. Pellets, placed under the skin, consistently release small doses of hormones providing optimal therapy without adverse effects.

As Biote Certified Providers, we receive training on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy in the form of subcutaneous pellets. The exact dose is customized based on a consultation and extensive lab work to ensure a patient receives the exact concentration of hormones needed.

Bioidentical hormones pellets work with the chemistry of the body because they replicate the molecular structure of the hormones that normally occur within the body.

Is There More Than One Type of Pellet?

Yes, there are two major pellet therapy types: estrogen pellets and testosterone pellets.

Why Pellets?

Typical oral and transdermal forms of therapy produce “roller coaster” hormone levels, resulting in mood and energy fluctuations for the patient. The Biote® Hormone Pellet Therapy can provide sustained hormone levels throughout the day, for 3-4 months in women and 4-5 months in men, without any “roller coaster” effects found with other hormone therapies.

Our online questionnaire can give you some insight as to whether HRT may be right for you. The first step at Temecula Hormone Therapy is to have a consultation and a comprehensive blood panel taken to determine your current hormone levels. Once we receive the results, you will meet with a provider to review the lab work. The combination of current labs and your current symptoms provides the necessary information to determine whether you are a candidate. If you are a candidate, your provider will use this information to customize a Biote treatment plan just for you.

What Is Estrogen?

Estrogen is a hormone that possesses many functions and occurs in the bodies of both men and women. In women, estrogen is commonly associated with reproduction—it prompts the menstrual cycle and develops the female body’s secondary sex characteristics. However, in both sexes, estrogen is responsible for many facets of bone health, cholesterol metabolism, and the thickness and collagen content of the skin.

What Are Estrogen Pellets?

Estrogen pellets are most commonly used to help address the uncomfortable symptoms of aging in women. They may relieve emotional, reproductive, and non-reproductive symptoms. The estrogen pellets are small cylinders that are custom compounded and composed of estradiol, a form of estrogen.

Estrogen pellets are primarily used to combat the effects of menopause. Studies have shown that estrogen may also help relieve some symptoms associated with mood, bone density, and heart health.

How Do Estrogen Levels Change With Age?

As women age, their estrogen levels decrease. Women's hormone levels fall most noticeably during the perimenopause (the period right before menopause) and during menopause. In fact, many men may have higher estrogen levels than women after female menopause. The fundamental function of the ovaries is the creation of estrogen, so if a woman has undergone a radical hysterectomy that involved the removal of both ovaries, her estrogen levels will suffer significantly. Although fat tissue and adrenal glands both create some estrogen, this is frequently insufficient to properly balance and sustain the hormone levels in women.

Can Estrogen Reverse Signs of Aging Skin?

During menopause, lower levels of estrogen cause your skin to thin and result in wrinkling and sagging. Increasing estrogen levels can help improve the skin’s texture and reduce signs of aging both directly and indirectly. For example, lack of sleep and increased stress age the skin. HRT that includes estrogen can help these symptoms of aging.

How Long Do Pellets Last?

Depending on the patient's gender, weight, absorption rates, and degree of hormonal shortage or excess at the time of insertion, pellets can last anywhere between three and six months. To assist keep hormones adjusted and balanced, pellets are reinserted two to four times a year. It may take up to two insertions before you experience the full advantages.
When determining a patient's eligibility for pellet-based BHRT, we run a number of comprehensive lab tests. Before starting pellet therapy, one of our Certified Biote Providers will go over the results with the patient.

What Happens During the In Office Insertion?

During the in-office visit patients are brought into the exam room, and the insertion site is numbed. The most common site of insertion is the upper buttocks. A tiny incision is then made for pellet insertion. Once the pellet is inserted, the insertion site is covered with a small bandage. This only takes a few minutes.

What Am I Able To Do After Insertion?

After pellet insertion, it’s best to refrain from lower body exercise. Walking should be fine, but strenuous activity is not recommended. Showers are permitted but avoid bathtubs, swimming and hot tubs. After the removal of the bandage, normal activity may resume.

What Happens to the Pellets After Insertion?

Since pellets are bioidentical and contain hormones like those our body produces, the pellets are completely dissolved and absorbed, leaving nothing behind.
